1983 exhibition catalogue on the work of Marcel Duchamp, held September 9, 1983 to January 8, 1984 at the Ringling Museum of Art, Sarasota, Florida. Introduction by Michael Auping; biographical chronology; abbreviated bibliography. Colour and black and white reproductions of works bequeathed to the museum by Mary Sisler, ranging from Duchamp’s rare pre-Cubist impressionist paintings to his famed ready-mades. Duchamp insisted that art should be at the service of the mind, as opposed to a particular skill or material, and he brought to his art an interest in traditionally non-art subject matter, such as linguistics, mathematics and game theory.
