Nobi Shigemoto
New York Anarchy

A grim view of America in the ’80s in super saturated color Kodachrome – rich and dark and moody a la Subway by Bruce Davidson. – See more at: http://www.dashwoodbooks.com/pages/books/4886/shigemoto-nobi/new-york-anarchy/?soldItem=true#sthash.irIFcXJy.dpuf

Very rare first edition of this compelling photobook from Japanese photographer Nobi Shigemoto, printed by Asahi Shimbun in 1983.
Early 1980’s colour photography of violence and disaffection in American cities.
Images of street fights, US/Mexican border patrol arrests, prostitution, police precinct lockups, biker gangs, gang warfare, murder… Despite the implications of the title, Shigemoto visited and documented not only New York, but also Detroit, Chicago, Hawaii, and the Fort Apache Indian reservation, taking images primarily at night. Intense, lurid documentary work on life in the United States of America in rich, saturated colour Kodochrome.

First printing in original protective plastic sleeve with original obi band.

* Condition: Very Good (small amount of general wear to protective plastic sleeve and general handling, otherwise a clean copy throughout) – All care is taken to provide accurate condition details of used books, photos available on request.

Man Ray
Photos

Exquisite, and very rare, Japanese volume on the (mostly) photographic work of Man Ray, published in 1981 by Asahi Shimbun. Issued only in Japan in hardcover form, wrapped in a foil-stamped/printed black cardboard sleeve, this beautifully designed book features 165 stunningly reproduced images honest to the original photographic works of Man Ray, including his abstract work, portraits, photographs of fellow artists, artworks, studios and living spaces (including many collaborations with Marcel Duchamp). Many of these photographs are rarely documented in other Man Ray publications. Text is entirely in Japanese, although there is very little of it as this is primarily a photo book.
A beautiful volume on Man Ray.

* Condition: Very Good (tight, clean pages and binding, with very light tanning, protected in original foil-printed cardboard sleeve which shows general shelf wear, small bump to one corner not affecting pages)  – All care is taken to provide accurate condition details of used books, photos available on request.

Due to the weight of this volume, your order will likely incur additional postage costs.  We will contact you with the best shipping advice upon your order, or alternatively, please email us in advance.  Thank you for understanding.
